MISSION

The Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ARTA) is a group organized to advocate for retired teachers on the issues that affect their well-being. ARTA regularly takes concerns about pensions and declining health care benefits to the provincial government and the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund.

ARTA has a representative on the Alberta Council on Aging and is a member of the Canadian Association of Retired Teachers. ARTA currently has over 9,000 members who are organized into 15 Branches throughout Alberta and one Satellite Branch in BC.

ARTA has eight voluntary insurance options in the excellent ARTA Group Benefits Program available to members, associate members and their dependents. Apply early! When enrolling in ARTA's Health Plan, your acceptance will be guaranteed without a medical exam provided you apply for coverage before, or within, 60 days of leaving another group insurance plan. For more information or to apply for coverage, contact the ARTA Group Plan Administrator, Johnson Inc. at 1- 877- 989-2600 . Click on the Group Benefits button at the right to learn more or call the ARTA office toll free ( anywhere in Alberta) at 1- 800 - 232-7208 ext. 474.

GOVERNANCE

The Alberta Retired Teachers' Association (ARTA) has begun a transition from an executive governed organization to one led by a Board of Directors in which each of the Branch Presidents serves as a Director. The ARTA President, Vice-President, Treasurer and the Chairs of Standing Committees also sit on the Board. The Board of Directors determines ARTA Policies and overall direction of the organization. The day to day business is carried on by the ARTA Office Staff and is overseen by the ARTA Executive Director, Mr. Don Mock.

Among the goals for the new governance structure are the development of a three-year business plan, full participation and representation in pension matters, and improvements in the Health, Dental and Travel Insurance Plan. On this Governance page, ARTA will try to keep its membership current with what is happening in the organization. You will find below links to various documents that will help clarify the governance of ARTA. If you have questions, please contact one of the Board of Directors directly.
