A Life Story in 50 Christmas Cards, 1945-2003

This recently published soft-cover coffee table book by Warren Roy—would make a unique Christmas gift! Since 1945 the author has designed and published his own greeting card nearly every year. The book contains full colour reproductions of his 50 card designs (often semi abstract), along with a short story or explanation on each opposite facing page.

The graphics employed for the original cards include linocuts, serigraphs, reproductions of the author’s drawings and paintings, and finally, computer graphics. Together, the cards and notes present an insight into the life of a family and the changing shape of society over the last six decades.

The book sells for $29.95 which includes shipping costs.

Please contact Warren Roy at royhw@telusplanet.net or 403-249-0002.

CHESS and/or SCRABBLE INSTRUCTORS REQUIRED!

The Roving ChessNuts, a unique chess instructional programmer operating in many schools in Edmonton and region, plus occasionally in various communities around the province, is looking for retired teachers.

Applicants with a good knowledge of chess would teach basic chess, usually on a weekly basis during lunch periods or after-school, in elementary and junior high schools in Edmonton and area. Arrangements could also be made to have the program operating in other parts of the province where there is interest and an instructor. We provide the training, materials, liability insurance and administrative support, along with wages starting at a minimum of $25 per hour.

A similar type of program involving tournament-level Scrabble is now being developed for launch in schools by January 2009 and might be a good fit for retired language arts teachers with a love for words, vocabulary and definitions. If you feel you could teach either chess or scrabble, and would like to return to the classroom part-time, this might be an excellent fun opportunity.
